Merial, the makers of ZimecterinŽ paste dewormer, have announced a new version of this popular product called Zimecterin GoldŽ.



Zimecterin Gold is the first deworming product licensed in the U.S. specifically for the treatment of tapeworms in horses.



Until now, treatment for tapeworms usually consisted of giving increased doses of Strongid paste or Panacur, with generally mixed results. Zimecterin Gold contains praziquantel, which has been proven in tests to be highly effective against equine tapeworms, and is safe to use in all horses five months of age and older.



Zimecterin Gold also contains ivermectin, the same active ingredient as regular Zimecterin. Ivermectin is well known to be effective against some 60 different varieties of equine parasites, including small strongyles that are resistant to other forms of treatment.
